ACS Active Chapter Size. Average membership of all chapters within a given population division.
AMBASSADOR The highest honor conferred by the United States Jaycees. This most distinguished form of recognition signifies an individuals exceptional contribution to the Jaycee movement and can be bestowed at the state or chapter level.
ARMBRUSTER COMPETITION This annual competition is for Jaycees with over a year in the organization. This competition is based 50% on a resume and 50% on five Jaycee fact and opinion questions in a job interview situation.
BROWNFIELD COMPETITION Same as Armbruster, but for Jaycees with less than one year experience.
BLUE CHIP A chapter management program designed to assist local chapters in developing the total Jaycee concept.
BY-LAWS Rules and regulations an organization employs to determine its government and procedures.
CALLING TREE A system whereby chapter leaders call the chapter members to update and activate them.
CHAIRMAN The individual charged with responsibility for the completion of a project. The chairman heads a committee and provides motivation and leadership for its members.
CONGRESS A Washington based organization originally created for Jaycee women for recognition of an individuals outstanding contribution to the Jaycee movement.
CPG Chairmans Planning Guide. A series of 10 questions used to properly plan, execute and evaluate all Jaycee programs and projects.
DEGREES OF JAYCEES An activation and retention program designed to guide an individual through their leadership development. The program is divided into three phases and ten degrees to mark the progress of each Jaycee.
DD District Director. The individual responsible for assisting the chapters in their district with communication and coordination to the region and state levels.
DIGNITARY The highest honor bestowed upon an individual member for their contributions to the Jaycees by the Washington Jaycees.
DSA Distinguished Service Award. An award presented to a young person of Jaycee age for outstanding community service.
DISTRICT Each of the regions in Washington is further divided into two to five districts. Each district has its own Director to better serve its local chapters at the region and state level through better communication and guidance.
EXHAUSTED ROOSTER An affectionate title bestowed on a Jaycee upon retiring from the Jaycees at the age of 40.
EXTENSION The initial organizing of an new Jaycee chapter prior to completing the affiliation process.
JCI Junior Chamber International. The worldwide Jaycees organization now operating in over 120 countries.
JCI SENATOR The highest honor bestowed upon an individual member for their contributions to the Jaycees by Junior Chamber International. A JCI Senator is a life member of JCI.
JAYCEE CREED A statement of philosophy and beliefs adopted by the U.S. Jaycees and The JCI. The Creed was authored by the late C. William Brownfield of Columbus, Ohio, in 1946.
JAYCEE FAMILY WEEK Thanksgiving week is recognized by Jaycees as a time to emphasize the importance of the family unit.
JAYCEE JEOPARDY A competition held at Regional, State, and National levels on the history and activities of the Jaycees.
JAYCEE WAR MEMORIAL Located at the home office of the U.S. Jaycees in Tulsa Oklahoma.
JAYCEE WEEK The week, beginning on the third Sunday of January, which marks the anniversary of the founding of The United States Jaycees in 1920. Often local chapters will host banquets during this week to honor bosses or recipients of Distinguished Service Awards.
JAYCEE YEAR The fiscal year of the U.S. Jaycees begins on January 1st and ends on December 31st. Quarters end on March 31st, June 30th, September 30th, and December 31st.
JOTS Jaycees Officer Training School. A U.S. Jaycees training service offered to state officers at Tulsa each January.
LIARS CLUB A popular program used by chapters to involve members in the Speak Up program by giving impromptu speeches explaining their way out of difficult situations.
LOTS Local Officer Training School. A training service offered to local officers and members by the state each January.
M-NIGHT Membership Night. A social gathering to allow prospective Jaycees to meet a chapters members.
METRO The name given Jaycee chapters in POP Division VII and VIII and chapters with over 150 members in POP Divisions I through VI.
MUNGENAST COMPETITION Same as Armbruster and Brownfield, but to recognize Jaycees and Jaycee families.
NATIONAL CONVENTION The annual business meeting of the U.S. Jaycees held each June in different locations each year.
O.F. Old Fart. A loving reference to individuals who have been in the Jaycees for untold years.
OYC Outstanding Young Farmer. A program to recognize young farmers of Jaycee age.
ONTO A slogan used in promoting attendance at the national annual convention.
PARADE OF CHAPTERS Competition among the chapters within a state in which points are earned and a ranking is established on a quarterly and annual basis.
PARADE OF STATES Annual competition among the 50 states to be ranked according to performance during the year.
PLAN OF ACTION The operating manual of a Jaycee chapter outlining the chapters objective and goals for the coming year, distributed to each member at the beginning of each year.
POP DIVISION Population Division. For the purposes of competition and chapter activity guidelines, the local chapters are classified by the population of their communities into 9 divisions.

RD Region Director. The director of a region whose primary purpose is to provide guidance and training to the local chapters as well as act as a conduit for information between the state organization and local chapters.
REGION The state is divided into geographic regions to provide local leadership and guidance to the chapters in that area.
RETENTION The reference made to keeping members of a local chapter active members in the Jaycee organization.
SINGLE PROJECT CATEGORIES The projects and programs of the Jaycees are broken into 5 Areas of Opportunities falling under the four major programming areas: Individual Development, Management Development, Community Development, and Membership Development.
SPEAK UP A program designed to improve an individuals verbal communication skills.
SPRINGBOARD An individual activation program designed to aid chapters in activating new members within their first 90 days.
STATE BOARD MEETINGS A quarterly meeting of all Washington chapters.
STATE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETINGS The monthly business meetings of the Washington executive committee. The committee is comprised of all state officers, RDs, DDs, and Program Managers.
TOYA Ten Outstanding Young Americans. TOYA exists to recognize and honor ten Americans each year who exemplify the best attributes of the nations young people, aged 21 through 39. Winners are selected on their achievement or contribution in at least three of the following areas: personal improvement or accomplishment; financial success or economic innovation; social improvement to major contemporary problems; philanthropic contribution or voluntary service; politics or government service; scientific or technological contributions; legal reform; cultural achievement (literature, history, education, arts); academic leadership or accomplishment; moral and religious leadership; athletic accomplishment; success in the influence of public opinion; any other important contribution to the community, state, or nation.
